Mangalore, May 1: The ceremonial wedding bells will chime with the joy of uniting 26 couples in holy wedlock at Rosario on May 2. This annual celebration filled with special meaning for the community, will be presided over by The Bishop of Mangalore, Rev.Dr.Aloysius P.D’Souza at Rosario Cathedral, the mother church of Mangalore Diocese. St.Vincent De Paul society of Mangalore, has initiated this boon since 1976 in support of the weaker sections of the community and in particular for the welfare of women. To date more than 500 couples have been married at this annual event  generally held in the month of May; the record is set to add 26 couples for this year which is an average number too.

First of all it is rare to have the Bishop himself preside over weddings! Each couple is well prepared in spirit and material giving them a head start - records show that very rarely such marriages have had trouble comparing with the general average. The stronger forces of the religious and social leaders are open to couples married in such circumstances. Each couple is given practical gifts to start family life, e.g: clothing, utilities, basic ornaments, and a new savings account in the bank which they are expected to take forward.

Soon after the Church solemnities a formal celebration at the Rosario School premises is held which enhances the warm wedding joy of the couples collectively and individually.

Each couple is given the option of having 60 invitees representing their family, relatives and friends. The reception that follows is fit for the best wedding occasion - the couples embark on a life time of growth and togetherness with their right foot forward! Strong warm families make a good community in turn building a better Nation and Wold for the future!
