12 villages identified as naxal-affected

Mangalore, May 4: The Government has identified 12 villages in Dakshina Kannada as naxal affected in the context of the gram panchayat elections on May 12, according to Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj.

In an informal chat with presspersons on the sidelines of a review meeting conducted by State Election Commissioner C.R. Chikkamath here on Monday, Mr. Ponnuraj said there were 32 polling stations in these villages.

Additional Superintendent of Police R. Ramesh named the naxal-affected villages: Lyla, Nada, Navoor, Malanthike, Mittabagilu, Kavanalu, Shirlalu, Naravi, Kuthanoor, Sulakeri, Navara and Sulakeri Mogru.

Monday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
