Mangalore, May, 4: A part of Mahalingeshwar Temple was damaged in a landslide, which occurred at Pandeshwar on May 3, Monday night. A vehicle was also buried in the soil.

Reliable sources have revealed that the landslide occurred because of the digging work going on near it. A renowned construction company is in the process of erecting a commercial complex. The car, which belonged to the construction company, got buried in the mud.

Fortunately, the number of devotees in the temple was less in spite of the Temple Fair, which is currently in progress. Eyewitnesses say that a bigger accident was avoided because of there were only a few devotees around.

Bajarang Dal activists and devotees of Mahalingeshwara Temple had a quarrel with the manager of the construction company shortly after the landslide occurred. The construction company has promised to repair the damaged temple.

MLA Yogish Bhat and Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj visited the temple on May 4, Tuesday to assess the damage.
