Mangalore, May 7: The Navodaya Grama Vikasa Charitable Trust has been selected for the prestigious national-level Rotary India Award 2009 - 2010. M. N. Rajendra Kumar, the managing trustee, will receive the award at the 18th Rotary India Award Programme to be held at Le Meridian Hotel Auditorium in New Delhi on May 19 in the presence of various dignitaries.
Kumar said that this prestigious award is given to the best voluntary service organizations of the country annually after careful deliberations by the jury of the Rotary Award for Service to Humanity India Trust, based in New Delhi.
The Navodaya Charitable Trust, which has worked for the economic and social uplift of the underprivileged in the society, had recently organized the decennial celebrations of its self-help groups. Kumar said that the functioning of these self-help groups was considered while making the decision to confer the award on this body.
The Navodaya Grama Vikasa Charitable Trust has bagged annual awards conferred by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) since the last 3 years from 2007 - 00.
