ILO and Dutch Ministry to hold global conference on child labour

Mangalore, May 7: Mr. Adyanthaya Nitte Manjappa, the vice president of Indian National Trade Union Congress, said that the ILO in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment will organize a global conference on child labour in Hague on May 10 – 11. He was addressing a press conference at Press Club on May 7, Friday.

Mr. Manjappa also said that the first session will be devoted to the political statements of high-level participants, the release of the Global Report on Child Labour, and the presentation of an interagency report jointly prepared by the ILO, the World Bank, and the UNICEF. The official languages of the conference are English, French, and Spanish, but English translations will be provided simultaneously, he informed.

Parallel technical workshops on political awareness such as action against slavery, action against commercial sexual exploitation of children and illicit activities, action against child labour in agriculture, and action against hazardous work and others will also be held, he said.
