Bannanje Raja Might Be Set Free

14 October 2009

The state police have not yet received any official confirmation from the Dubai police about the arrest of the notorious criminal Bannanje Raja.

According to a state police official, a lot of paper work is required to extradite an arrested person from the UAE. The law requires all the papers to the translated into Arabic. The police officer said that this might be responsible for the delay in communication.

But according to reliable sources from Dubai, the authorities in Dubai do not have anything against Bannanje Raja. Moreover, India has failed to communicate with Dubai regarding his extradition. For these reasons, the criminal might be either released on bail or set free without condition.

Since specific confirmation about Raja’s arrest has not reached the police in Bangalore and Mangalore, they have refused to issue any official statement.

On October 12, 2009, Bannaje Raja was allegedly arrested in Dubai airport when he was trying to leave Dubai for Malaysia. Gopal Hosur, the western range inspector general of police, said that Raja would be extradited to India from Dubai if he has really been arrested there. He had informed that the local police can request his extradition only if Dubai sends an official confirmation of his arrest.
