Delhi Archbishop inaugurates Luciana

Mangalore, May 21:  Dr. Vincent Concesso, the archbishop of Delhi, inaugurated “Luciana,” a home for the aged on Pilikula Road, Vamanjoor on May 20, Thursday.


A holy mass followed the inauguration at 11 a.m., with Dr. Vincent Concesso as the main celebrant. His homily was on the need for dedicated service and commitment. The archbishop then blessed the altar. Fr. Ravi Santhosh Kamath, Fr. Walter D’Mello, Fr. Peter Noronha, and Fr. Cyprian D’Souza concelebrated.


Luciana is the brainchild of Mable and Vincent Rodricks. The home has 22 furnished rooms with attached baths, a chapel, a recreation hall, a fully equipped kitchen, and a dining room. Other facilities include a back-up generator, solar heaters, computerized office, TV, video, 24-hrs water supply from the bore well, and telephone service. Pilikula Park and international golf course are the neighbours of Luciana.


Mass was followed by a stage programme. The comperer was Marissa Noronha. Ann Goveas welcomed the gathering. The archbishop honoured Mabel and Vincent Rodricks. Ashok Prabhu spoke about the Luciana project.


Fr. Ravi Santhosh Kamath said that Dr. Vincent Concesso is among the most eminent and influential figures in the country. He lauded the achievement of Mable and Vicent Rodricks, adding that constructing a home for senior citizens is one of the best ways to serve society.


The Sisters of St. Joseph of St Marc will manage Luciana. This international missionary congregation has 3 such homes in India. Sr. Geetha, the provincial of the Sisters of St Josephs of St Marc, said that God’s blessings were responsible for the success of this project, which will be of great benefit for the elderly citizens.


Melissa Rodrigues, niece of Vincent and Mabel Rodricks, spoke on their behalf. She thanked all those who supported the project.


Harold Goveas, who planned, supervised, and managed the project, along with architect Neville D’Souza, contractor Rama Maistry, and electrician and plumber Gerald Monteiro were honoured on the occasion.
