Ban on mechanised boats, nets for fishing

Mangalore, Jun 4 : The government here announced a ban on fishing using mechanized boats and using any sort of net for a period of 57 days from June 15 to August 10 along Karnataka Coast including the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

 



The notification, under Karnataka coastal Fishing (Control) Act 1986, fishing said by all mechanised boats fitted with above 10 H.P both inboard and outboard engines had been prohibited during the period.

The notification issued by the Department of Fisheries here warned that any violation of the ban order by the boat owners will not only attract legal action but also losing the government facilities given to the fishing boats such as subsidised diesel, grant and concession on sales tax and excise duty. The owner of such boats would be held responsible for violating the order and no compensation will be paid in case of any eventuality, the order said.
