Hundreds of dead chicken dumped into River Nethravathi

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 5: Environmentalists, social leaders, and the general public have already raised their voice against the pollution of the River Nethravathi.

People wash vehicles, release effluents, and pollute this river in a number of ways. Recently, unknown miscreants have dumped hundreds of dead chicken into the waters of the River Nethravathi near Kanchikarapete. The place stinks, indicating that the dead chicken must have been dumped there a couple of days before. Worms can be observed on the rotting chicken. The residents are not only forced to live with the unbearable stench, but are also in the risk of contracting infectious diseases.

Environmentalists and social leaders have staged several protests in the past when miscreants attempted to pollute the River Nethravathi. The water of this river is used for drinking purposes by several people, including Mangaloreans. The intake of severely polluted water can wreck the health of people.

The district administration should coordinate with the local administration and the police department to track down the culprits and take strict action against them. If this is not done, the wrong doers might feel encouraged to repeat their action.
