AI compensates 26 more families

Mangalore, May 6: AI distributed cheques worth Rs 2.67 crore, which includes the AI’s interim compensation plus the prime minister’s compensation, to 26 more families of the Mangalore plane crash victims on Saturday.  

Rs. 2.15 crore was distributed as the AI’s interim compensation while Rs 52 lakh was distributed as the prime minister’s compensation. Till the evening of Friday, AI had compensated 84 families of plane crash victims. On May 28 - 29, the national carrier gave away Rs. 4.82 crore as compensation to 54 families. On June 3, compensation cheques worth Rs 1.82 crore were given to 20 families. On Friday, 10 families received a total compensation of Rs 92 lakhs.  

AI is giving a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the survivors as part of the central government’s compensation. The claimants must meet AI officials at the camp they have set up at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Navbharat Circle, Kodialbail on June 10 from 10:30 a.m. Claimants are required to provide documents such as identity proofs. The cheques will be made in the name of the claimants who received the AI’s interim compensation. 
Claimants who cannot arrive in person can appoint someone to do so in writing. Alternatively, they can request their compensation to be sent to them by post. The contact numbers of AI office at Lal Bhag are 0824/ 2451044, 2452306, 2452307 and 2452308.  

The state government will soon release the compensation it promised to the families of the plane crash victims. Prabhakar Sharma, the additional deputy commissioner, issued a press release, which states that the deputy commissioner’s office will contact the families of the victims through telephone and also make an announcement in the local newspapers as soon as the district administration receives intimation that the state government has released the funds.  

Death certificates have been issued to 131 of the 158 plane crash victims through a single window system. The others will soon receive the death certificates.
