Mangalore, June 7: The Kelarai Unit of Catholic Sabha and All Banks’ Christian Employees Association, Mangalore (ABCEA) jointly organized a programme to distribute school uniforms to the economically backward students of St. Anne’s English Medium School, Kelarai on June 6, 2010 in the Parish Hall at 8:30 a.m.
Mr. Alfred Bennis, the president of Catholic Sabha, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Marcel D’Souza, the general secretary of ABCEA, read the report of ABCEA activities and said that the free uniform distribution programme was the second activity conducted as part of the ABCEA’s decennial year celebrations, the grand finale of which will be held in the month of August/September 2011.
President Audy Rego said that Catholics should offer service to others. Rev. Fr. John Vas, the parish priest and director of the Catholic Sabha, said that we have to live for others and not for ourselves. He lauded the services rendered by the ABCEA during the past decade.
Readymade school uniforms worth Rs 18,000, sponsored by ABCEA and funded by entrepreneur Mr. Ronald Colaco of Bangalore, were distributed to 30 poor students of St. Anne’s English Medium School, Kelarai.
Wilma Vas, the secretary of the Sabha, proposed the vote of thanks. Santhosh D’Costa was the comperer. Jossy Rodrigues, the vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council; Raymond D’Cunha, the representative of the episcopal and city varado; Sr. Chennamma, the headmistress of the school; and Mrs. Jacintha Texeira, the ex headmistress, also participated in the event.
