1 person dies when bus plunges into gorge

Katapady, June 08: A private bus plunged into a gorge by the side of NH17 at Kallapu near Katpady, killing one person and injuring several on June 7, Monday. The passengers were returning after attending a function at Katpady. 

The deceased was 18-year-old Geethanjali, a resident of Kotekar in Mangalore. The injured are Narayan Acharya, Hemaraj Acharya, Rashmi, Yadav Acharya, Hariprasad, Divakar, Kanya, Gunavathi, Shamdev, Jnandev, Rohan, Sandesh, Raghavendra, and Vasanthi. 

About 28 persons were travelling in the bus. The people of the locality blame the NH authorities for their failure to repair the railings by the roadside in spite of the increasing number of accidents at the spot. 

Sub Inspector Mohan Kumar, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Kaup MLA Lalaji R. Mendon, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Santhosh Kumar visited the site of the accident. 

The Kaup police have registered a care and investigations are going on.
