Campco bags ISO 22000 certification for food safety and quality

Mangalore, Jun 7:  Campco Ltd, The multi-state cooperative giant based in Mangalore, has been awarded the ISO 22000 Certification pertaining to food safety and food quality by the certification authority SGS of Switzerland, for its chocolate manufacturing division, said Sanjay Goshal of ISO.

He was speaking after handing over ISO certification to Konkodi Padmanabha, the president of Campco during the press meet held at its head office “Varanashi Towers” on June 7, Monday. He also said that the ISO 22000 Certification is given to Campco for the activities of preparing, storing, and dispatching of cocoa-based products, chocolates, hard-boiled sugar confectionery products, instant drinking chocolate, and Instant milk flavouring.

Congratulating Campco, he also said that ISO 22000 standards are widely accepted across the world as the model for food and safety. Customer expectation, environmental concerns, demands for organic foods, and changing technology are some of the reasons for the implementation of food safety assurance system by manufacturers.  Campco is one of the 53 ISO certified companies so far to ensure food safety to customers, he added.

Chief Guest Satish Marathe, the national president of Sahakara Bharathi, congratulated the company and said that Campco has made the cooperative business proud, adding that chocolate making is a big business in our country.

Konkodi Padmanabha, the president of CAMPCO, said that this certification is given to all the farmers of Karnataka and Kerala for their efforts behind the company. A large numbers of workers in the past and present are responsible for this achievement.

He also said that Campco is already in the process of applying for ISO 14000 pertaining to environmental management systems and OHSAS 18000, as per a policy of the management to conform the legal requirements and with other requirements to which the organization subscribes pertaining to health and safety of the system.
