Mangalore, June 11: Ivan D’Souza, the vice president of the Congress Party, urged citizens who have been adversely affected by the unsafe conditions of roads that are being concretized by the MCC to sue the civic body and demand compensation.
D’Souza told reporters that 45 people have died and 200 people have sustained injuries ever since the MCC took up the road concretization project in the city. Unsafe conditions at the site of the concretization has made the civic body directly responsible for these deaths and injuries, he alleged.
Offering his staunch support to families who have been adversely affected by MCC’s concretization drive, D’Souza noted that citizens can sue the corporation if, according to District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, contractors can be sued for negligence.
Recently, D’Souza has filed cases against Mayor Rajani Dugganna and Commissioner Vijaya Prakash following the death of Pashan from Jeppu.
D’Souza also wants the mayor to provide complete information regarding the current status of the 17 roads taken up for concretization. Although the mayor says 13 of the roads are completed, none of the roads look completed, he pointed out.
