Mangalore, June 14: Bishop of Mangalore Diocese conferred the papal titled PRO Ecclesia Et Pontifice on late legendary singer Konkan Koghul Wilfy Rebimbus on June 13, Sunday, during a mass held at Milagres Church in the evening. Mrs. Meena Rebimbus, wife of the late singer, received the title awared by Pope Benedict XVI in recognition of Wilfy’s love for the church and his spectacular contributions to the world of Konkani music from the bishop just before the mass.
Fr. Andrew D’Souza, the parish priest of St. Joseph’s; Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu, the diocesan vicar general; and several priests from all over the diocese concelebrated the mass with the bishop.
Fr. Andrew and the bishop lauded the contributions of Mr. Wilfy Rebimbus to Konkani music. They said that his songs were meaningful and held deep messages for the Konkani community. His songs also depicted his love for the language, they said.
The parish of St. Joseph’s Church Jeppu expressed its joy at this papal honor bestowed on Wilfy. The families of Vishwas Rebimbus and Veena Rebimbus as well as a large number of well-wishers were present on the occasion.
