Mangalore, June 18: A team of doctors at Mangala Hospital in Manipal successfully extracted a 13-cm long fish that had got stuck in a man’s throat.
Hospital sources said that Mohammed Kunhi of Kanhangad, who had just arrived from the Gulf, had gone fishing. He caught a fish and put it in his mouth while trying to catch another. The fish in his mouth slipped down his throat. Four hours later, he was brought to the hospital in a serious condition.
Dr. Dharmaraja, the medical officer of Mangala Hospital, said that a team of doctors under the leadership of Dr. Ashok Shetty and Dr. Ganapathy P., the cardiothoracic surgeon, successfully extracted the fish and saved his life. The dead fish had got stuck in his wind pipe and was difficult to remove. The doctors had to use nephroscope to remove it. Dr. Dharmaraj said that the patient is now safe.
