Academy to present awards to 17 writers

Udup, June 18i:  President of the Kannada Sahitya Academy M.H. Krishnaiah said on Thursday that five writers would be given honorary awards for 2009 at the Nutana Ravindra Mantapa on the MGM College premises here on July 1.

Seventeen writers would be given awards for their works (“pustaka bahumana”) in different fields for 2008 on the occasion.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Krishnaiah said that writers Shashikala Moldi, Gurumurthy Pendkur, K.R. Nagaraj, P.K. Rajshekhar and Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy would receive the honorary awards for 2009.

Noted Marathi writer Balachandra Namade will distribute the awards. Poet Chennaveera Kanavi will be the chief guest.

Programmes

Mr. Krishnaiah said that the academy had posted a directory of Kannada writers on the Internet. The details of the State, national and international awards bagged by Kannada writers and Kannada works had also been put on the Internet.
