Puttur farmers’ gun permit application ignored

Mangalore Today News Network

Puttur, Dec 7: The farmers in Puttur submitted an application for gun permits to the Tahasildar 6 months ago; but the police department has ignored the application.

The farmers say that they need the guns to protect their crops. The applications were sent to the police department and the police were requested to give a statement on the issue within 15 days. The police department, however, has chosen to ignore the application.

The issue of obtaining gun permits was discussed in the Puttur Taluk Panchayat meeting too. Disgruntled farmers are getting ready to apply for an RTI in the High Court. They are also ready to lodge a complaint with the state home minister and district in-charge minister.

The farmers say that the apathetic attitude of the police department toward their requirements has forced them to seek justice.
