City police get serious about implementing Supreme Court ruling

Mangalore, May 12, 2012 : The city police, with the assistance of the regional transport authority (RTA), are doing everything in their power to implement the recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the use of dark tinted films on car windows and windshields.

Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, who called a meeting of law enforcement officers, and said that the deputy commissioner of police for traffic and crime has been appointed as the nodal officer to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict.

He also said that the assistant commissioner of police for traffic and his staff is also involved in the implementation of the Supreme Court verdict. According to the police commissioner, the city police are taking all the required steps to ensure that the ruling is effectively implemented. He also said that he will have his own vehicle checked to see if it conforms to the law.

The city police will also launch a campaign to enhance awareness among car owners and give them enough time to make the required changes. The Supreme Court has ruled that there should be 70 percent visibility in the front and rear glasses and 50 percent in the side glasses. The police commissioner said that the city police and the transport department will collaborate to ensure the proper implementation of this new law.
