Mangalore , May 17, 2012 : T. V. Shenoy, the manager of the Bantwal branch of Corporation Bank, lodged a complaint at the local police station, stating that they had found fake Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes in the bank’s chest between May 9, 2011 and December 5, 2011.
The bank found 9 fake Rs. 500 notes and 3 fake Rs. 1000 notes. Mr. Shenoy said that the bank deposits around Rs. 75 lakh daily and conducts transactions worth Rs. 20 lakh daily and deposits the excess cash in its chest every week.
Abhishek Goyal, the superintendent of police, said that the police have registered several complaints regarding fake currency notes recently. Since banks have no idea who deposits the cash, the police find it very difficult to trace the source of these notes, he said.
