Udupi, June 7, 2012: The cleaner of a truck died when a load of PVC pipes fell over him at around 8:50 a.m. on June 7, Thursday.
The driver applied the brakes suddenly to avoid hitting another truck as a result of which the load of pipes fell into the driver’s cabin, right on top of the cleaner. The truck was in front of Halemariyamma Temple in Kaup along NH66 at that time. The driver escaped without any major injuries.
The deceased is Rahul of Osmanabad in Maharashtra, and the driver of the vehicle is Santhosh.
Since the truck came to a stop, traffic was blocked for nearly 2 hours, and it took the combined efforts of the local people and the policemen to move the truck, retrieve Rahul’s body, and rescue Santhosh.
Jayanth Shetty, deputy superintendent of police; Shivanand Walekar, circle inspector for Kaup; Archana, sub inspector; and other police officers visited the place.
