Body of drowned girl found after 8 days

Mangalore, June 10, 2012: The body of 17-year-old Raunak Jahan who drowned at Ullal Beach last week was retrieved at Shirali Alvedodi Beach in Bhatkal on June 10, Sunday.

On June 3, Sunday, Raunak and her cousin Uzma (15) were playing in the water when they were washed away by strong waves. A rescue team saved Uzma, but Raunak was believed to have drowned. The girls were from Mudigere in Chikmagalur and had been to Ullal for a picnic with their family.

Raunak was a student of Alva’s College in Moodubidri. She had cleared her CET and planned to do her PhD. Uzma had just completed her X Std.

Nisar Ruknaddin, a social worker, found Raunak’s body 8 days after she was suspected to be drowned. He immediately notified the police, and one of Raunak’s relatives identified her at 1:00 p.m.
