Mangalore, June 11, 2012 : The Ankola police raided Honne Beach Resort at Honnebail in Ankola at around midnight on Saturday and arrested 14 people, of who 8 were from Gurupura. The arrested were booked under IPC 294 for the non cognizable and bailable offence of behaving obscenely in public places and causing annoyance to the public.
Police Inspector Vijayaprakash said that the arrested were businessmen who had visited the resort to party, adding that they might be regular visitors.
Four of the arrested were women, who were later released on bail. They are Sudha Raju Kolavi (23) of Bagalkot, Deepa Arun Hiremath (34) of Hubli, Sushma Tejanarayan Subba (21) and Raji Lal Bahaddur Hamala (24), both from Katmandu in Nepal. According to the inspector, these four women were part of the orchestra.
When the police raided the place, they found four semi-nude women dancing to Western music while 8 others were throwing currency notes at them. The police have also arrested two people who organized the party.
The arrested are Raja Kumar Shetty (42), Sandeep Balakrishna Shetty (35), Sachin Balakrishna Shetty (31), Areef Inayatullah (38), Yashwanth Poojary (38), Harish Shetty (42), Vinod Bhagwandas Mada (45), Madhu Venkappa Shetty (37), all from Mangalore. Harish Nayak and Venkataramana Nayak, who organized the party, were also arrested.
The police have also confiscated Rs. 1.23 lakh, 10 mobile phones, 3 cars, and sound systems. Police source say that they raided the place after getting a tip that a rave party was being organized in the resort. They, however, did not find any evidence that a rave party was being held there. Since an obscene dance was going on during the raid, the police have booked the arrested under IPC 294.
