Mother and 3 children hacked to death in Puttur

Puttur, June 14, 2012: A mother and her three children were found murdered in their house in Puttur on the morning of June 14, Thursday.

The deceased are Sandhya Bhat (40) and her children Vidhya (20), Vimala (12), and Harigovind (15).

The police suspect that Venkataramana Bhat, Sandhya’s husband, hacked the four to death at night with a sharp weapon. Meanwhile, Venkataramana appears to have fled from the village, and the police have begun an intense search for him.

The bodies were discovered by the local people, who immediately called the police. A police team with sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts arrived on the crime scene and conducted preliminary investigations.

A couple of weeks back, Venkataramana lodged a police complaint, stating that a gang of thieves had broken into his house and stolen all the valuables, but the police suspect that he had lodged a false complaint.

Last year, Venkataraman had called a press meet at Puttur Press Club and told reporters that he had discovered a machine that can extract water from the earth, but later it was established that he had made false claims.
