Fall from second-floor balcony kills toddler

Mangalore, June 15, 2012: A toddler fell to her death from the balcony of a flat on the second floor in Valencia in the evening of June 14, Thursday. 

The deceased is 2-year-old Deeda Aabida, second daughter of Noor Jahan and Mohammed Muslim, who is the marketing manager for Vartha Bharathi, a Kannada daily. Although the child was rushed to a private hospital immediately, doctors’ efforts to save her life failed. She was declared dead at 12:30 a.m. 

Dr. Kishore Shetty, Dr. Devadiga and other resident doctors at Unity Health Complex tried their hardest to save the child, but the fall had affected her brain, owing to which she could not be saved. 

Reportedly, the child dragged a plastic chair to the balcony and tried climbing over it. The watchman said that he rushed to the spot immediately and took the child to the hospital with the help of a neighbor. 

A post-mortem was conducted in Government Wenlock Hospital and the body was handed over to the family at 4:00 a.m. The final rites were conducted in Jumma Masjid in the morning. 

The Pandeshwar police have registered a case.
