Mechanical engineering students invent coconut shelling machine

Mangalore, June 28, 2012 : A group of students from the department of mechanical engineering at Shrinivas Institute of Technology in Valachil have invented a machine to shell coconuts.

The machine, which uses a mechanical device, can remove the husk of coconuts at the rate of 120 coconuts per hour.

The team of students who invented this machine comprises Ashwin M. Kamath, Santhosh P. Saldanha, Rahul R. Kamath, and V. Sudhir Rao, all students of final year BE (mechanical engineering). Prof. Ramesh Kumar K. R. is their guide.

The students feel that this machine will be of great assistance in coastal areas, especially in coconut farms, coconut oil mills, temples, and so on.

 Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology provided the funds required for this project.
