Mangalore, July 4, 2012 : Mohammed Afrid (13), son of Mohammed Ali of Katipalla, died of drowning in a stream on the evening of July 2, Monday. The boy was staying with his grandmother in Majal Thota.

Fire fighting personnel were trying to find his body even on Tuesday.

According to the local people, Afrid and his school friends Shafeeq, Shaukath, and Naufal were playing near the stream in Munnooru Grama in Amblamogaru, Konaje, when Afrid slipped and fell into the water.

Owing to the incessant rains, the level of water in the stream has been rising from the past two weeks. After flowing for some distance, this stream merges with River Nethravathi.

Although the fire fighting personnel, with the assistance of the local people and the Konaje police, launched search operations on the evening of Monday, they have still not found the body.
