Award-winning Konkani writer Jerry Kulshekar is dead

Mangalore, Jul 6, 2012 : Konkani writer John Salvadore D’Silva, popular known in literary circles as Jerry Kulshekar, died in a private hospital on July 6, Friday.

He is survived by wife Benilda and four children Canil, Sunil, Shaila, and Buela.

About Jerry Kulshekar

Jerry Kulshekar was born on May 16, 1939 in Kulshekar and began his writing career when he was sixteen. He has written more than 50 novels and 800 short stories in Konkani. In 2004, he won the Daiji Dubai Award. Some of his best novels are Cynthicheo Shintryo, Dubllo Lekhak, Desvatt, Niradhari Molly, and others.

In 1985, his novel Zolma Sandesh won the Goa Konkani Bhasha Mandal Award, and in 1992, his novel Gharacho Divo won the Dr. TMA Pai Foundation Best Book Award.

Besides, he has won several literary contests organized by Konkani periodicals such as Mithr, Raknno, Kannik, and Poinnari.
