Holy Month of Ramadan begins in DK

Mangalore, July 21, 2012: Muslim religious leaders announced that Ramadan will begin on Saturday as the crescent moon was seen on Friday. Accordingly, Muslims in the district began their Ramadan fasting on July 21, Saturday.

Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar, Qazi of Mangalore, and P. M. Ibrahim Musliyar Bekar, Qazi of Udupi, conveyed Ramadan greetings to the people of the twin districts and urged Muslims to pray and fast throughout the month.

The new moon marks the beginning of a new Islamic lunar month that lasts for 29 – 30 days.
