Udupi, July 25, 2012: Women’s organizations in Udupi jointly organized Tulunadu Aatidonji Dina on July 25, Tuesday.
The members dressed in traditional clothes and displayed a wide range of dishes that are especially prepared during the month of Aati. They also organized Aati rituals with great devotion.
Addressing the gathering, Katpady Shankar Poojary, president of the Zilla Panchayat (ZP), said that people must preserve culture and tradition although changes in lifestyle are inevitable. He voiced his opinion that older people must pass on their traditions to the younger generation.
Traditional dishes such as Menthe Ganji, Timare Chatni, Gunda, Pathrode, Halasina Gatti, Gujja Iretha Gatti, Tujanka Vade, Girengu Podi, Mambla, and others were displayed and served to guests. The ingredients used in the preparation of these dishes are believed to ward off monsoon ailments and improve immunity.
