DK and Udupi records surplus rainfall

Mangalore, July 27, 2012: The state of Karnataka recorded widespread rainfall in six districts, fairly widespread rainfall in seven districts, scattered rainfall in six districts, and isolated rainfall in 10 districts during a period of 24 hours till 8 :30 a.m. on July 27, Friday.

The south-west monsoons were quite strong in one district, normal in 14 districts, active in six districts, and weak in nine districts. Besides, the state recorded very heavy rainfall in six districts, heavy rainfall in three districts, rather heavy rainfall in three districts, moderate rainfall in thirteen districts, light rainfall in four districts, and very light rainfall in one district.

The maximum rainfall of 273mm was recorded in Karauru in Sagar in Shimoga. As 43 percent of the GPs and hoblis recorded rainfall equal to or greater than 2.5mm, rainfall is considered to be scattered all over Karnataka. The districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, DK, Shimoga, and Haveri recorded moderate to heavy and widespread rainfall.

Places such as Davanagere, Bagalkot, Belgaum, Yadgir, Chikmagalur, and Raichur recorded moderate to rather heavy and fairy widespread rainfall. Places such as Bangalore Rural, Koppal, Bangalore Urban, Bellary, Chitradurga, and Hassan recorded moderate to rather heavy and scattered rainfall. Places such as Mysore, Gulbarga, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagar, Tumkur, Mandya, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, and Gadag recorded light to heavy and isolated rainfall.

The state has recorded rainfall of 37 percent from June 1 – 27. While the north interior, south interior, coastal, and malnad regions received an average rainfall of 438.3mm, the state received 274.3mm. During the above-mentioned time span, the state received 13.2mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 8.2mm, which is a surplus of 61 percent.
