Staff Shortage in Agriculture department

Udupi: Aug 7, 2012: About 50 % of the posts in Agriculture department in Udupi district is lying vacant .This has caused a great problem to the farmers as it hampers the implementation of various schemes.
Sources revealed that Kundapur and Karkala must have 10 agriculture assistants in the office but shockingly there are none in there. The total sanctioned posts, including that of Joint Director, Assistant Director, Agriculture Officer, Assistant Agriculture Officer and agriculture assistant in the district are 75.
 However, there are only 32 posts filled as on date. As many as eight posts have been sanctioned for the office of the Joint Agriculture Director.  But there is only one person in the office.

The agriculture assistants have the responsibility of visiting villages to give advice to the farmers. Since farmers need expert assistance during the time of monsoon, this situation has caused them hardships to carry out their yield.

Agriculture department Joint Director M Papanna said “After the new district was carved, no additional staff was recruited in the district. We are facing the problem due to shortage of technical officials. However, we ensure that the farmers do not face any hardship in the district. We will Find a solution to it soon” he concluded.
