Mangalore ,Aug 14,2012,Tuesday :Around 30 Malekudiyas,tribals had travelled all the way from their remote villages in the forests to Belthangady to meet D.K district in charge minister C.T. Ravi to address their grievance about the development of the Naxal- affected areas. After a tedious an hour or more journey, caused them disappointment as the minister gave them a slip to attend another meeting. The Malekudiyas were denied entry as it was a BJP meet, they were informed.
Shekhar L, a communist Party of India (Marxist) leader from Belthangady said, “They travelled all the way from distant villages like Navoor and Kutloor to tell the minister about their grief’s regarding basic lack of facilities in their area. However there was no intimation on the place of the meeting. They waited in the bus stand, till they were told about the minister’s absence”.
C.T Ravi had earlier announced a slew of projects that would be undertaken for the Naxal affected taluk region. He said around 6,000 houses had been sanctioned under the Ashraya Scheme of the state government, Rs.24 crore for drinking water projects, a residential school at a cost of Rs.1.84 crore under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan Scheme, and upgrading the Belthangady primary Health Centre to a community Health centre at a cost of Rs.3.75 crore.
