Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Aug 15, 2012 : P. V. Mohan, the Congress leader, has lodged a complaint against those who assaulted young people at a home stay in Padil with the National Commission for Women (NCW). Accordingly, NCW member Shamina Shafiq will visit Mangalore tomorrow to conduct an inquiry into the attack on young people who were celebrating their friend’s birthday at Morning Mist Home Stay on July 28.

Denying that the NCW’s visit is political in nature, Ms. Shafiq said that NCW is going to conduct an inquiry because it wants to know what went wrong. When asked why the NCW took such a long time to visit Mangalore, she said that the NCW did not want to hinder investigation by visiting the place. She also clarified that the NCW has no intention of countering the report submitted by C. Manjula, the Karnataka State Commission for Women.

Stating that the home stay attack has shocked the NCW, she said that the NCW will visit Mangalore to get a first-hand account of the incident because it considers the assault as a “serious issue.” She said that the NCW has requested the local police to submit an action taken report (ATR), but the local police have not yet obliged. She also said that the NCW is unhappy about the report submitted by C. Manjula, the chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, but refused to make any comment on her report.

The NCW team will meet women victims of the assault and their parents, she said.
