Mahila Congress wants women’s panel chief to quit

Bangalore, Aug 18, 2012 : Dubbing the report on the attack on youngsters at Morning Mist Home Stay in Mangalore, submitted by the Karnataka State Women’s Commission (KSWC), as “anti-women”, the State Mahila Congress on Friday demanded the resignation of KSWC Chairperson C. Manjula.

Addressing mediapersons, president of the State Mahila Congress Manjula Naidu urged Ms. Manjula to withdraw the report which is “framed” to protect the Hindu Jagaran Vedike, an outfit of Sangh Parivar.

Though the official report submitted by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Bipin Gopalakrishna denied the rave angle and confirmed it was a birthday party, the KSWC report was bent on treating the celebration as “rave party”, she lamented.

The KSWC chairperson visited Mangalore four days after the incident, and instead of condemning the attack on women, she supported moral policing. “Ms. Manjula has no moral right to continue in the post,” she said.

Transparent probe

Demanding a transparent probe into the incident, she said women in the State had lost confidence both in the BJP government and the KSWC. “It is better to handover the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)”, Ms. Manjula Naidu said.

Objection

Meanwhile, the Legal and Human Rights Wing of the KPCC took exception to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) “helping” the people from northeast, who are rushing to the railway station to catch a train to return to their native.

Uniformed RSS workers were threatening the people, who were returning their native and the government has to take immediate action against them, said chairman of the wing C.M. Dhananjaya. “The visit of Pramod Mutalik to railway station has created anxiety, as his hate speeches on earlier occasions triggered communal violence,” he noted.

Demanding immediate restoration of law and order in the State, he demanded the Human Rights Commission to register a suo motu case in this regard.
