Mangalore Airport’s operating profit is Rs. 9.5 crore – Airport Director Vasudeva

Mangalore, Aug 21, 2012 : Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of a meeting held by the Mangalore Airport Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee, Mangalore Airport Director M. R. Vasudeva said that the airport’s operating profit for the fiscal year 2011 – 12 is Rs. 9.5 crore.

Further explaining, he said that airport’s income and expenditure in 2011 – 12 was Rs. 42 crore and Rs. 32.5 crore, respectively, leaving an operating profit of Rs. 9.5 crore.

Speaking about the airport’s losses, he said that the airport had suffered a loss of Rs. 2.5 crore during the fiscal year 2002 – 03, but has recently seen great growth in revenue and traffic. In 2002 – 03, the airport’s income and expenditure was Rs. 4 crore and Rs. 6.5 crore, respectively.

Revealing details of the air cargo complex at Mangalore Airport, he said that Rs. 45 lakhs have been spent on completing civil and electrical work related to the complex.

Recently, Veerappa Moily, union power and corporate affairs minister, had announced at an exporters’ convention held in the city that the union civil ministry had informed him that the air cargo complex will be soon commissioned. During the convention, exporters had spoken of the need for an air cargo complex with cold storage facilities.
