Engineering student dies in road accident

Bhatkal, Aug 27, 2012 : A student of Anjuman Engineering College died in a road accident near Pushpanjali Theatre Railway Station Cross at 6:45 a.m. on August 27, Monday.

The deceased is Praveen Kumar (22), who had gone to the railway station to receive his friend Tauqeer Ehsaan, who was returning after a visit to his house from Lucknow. When they were returning to their hostel, Praveen’s Chetak bike skid and the two were thrown off on the road. While Praveen died on the spot, Tauqeer sustained serious injuries.

Tauqeer later told reporters that the bike skid because the roads were wet, adding that he lost consciousness after he fell.

Eyewitnesses, however, have pointed the finger of blame at a lorry, which they claim went over Praveen and sped away. Praveen’s body was found by the roadside. He had died of severe head injuries.

The deceased, who hails from Bihar, was a final year student at Anjuman Engineering College.

Kashimji Mohammed Ansar, vice president of Anjuman Hami e Muslimeen; Jukaku Abdul Raheem, general secretary; Kashimji Abubakar, college board secretary; Vice Principal S. M. Azeem; and many teachers and friends of Praveen paid a visit to Bhatkal Government Hospital, where the body is kept.

Praveen’s brother is expected to take the body back to Bihar for the final rites.

The Bhatkal Town Police have registered a case.
