Senior Congress leader Manjunath Udyavar is no more

Manipal, August 29, 2012: Manjunath Udyavar (56), senior Congress leader, died on the morning of August 29, Wednesday at KMC Hospital in Manipal.

He was the secretary of Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes. Mr. Udyavar had been unwell for the past one year and was on medication.

Mr. Udyavar was active in politics for the past 35 years. He was the honorary president of Udyavar Friends’ Circle, convener of Udyavar Sarvajanika Hindu Rudrabhoomi Sarvajanika Prathishtana, president of the Udyavara Grameena Congress Committee, president of the rejuvenation committees of Shri Brahmalingeshwara Temple and Guddeyangadi Babbuswamy Temple, honorary president of Hindu Higher Primary School Alumni, honorary president of Pitrodi Shri Mahakali Shaneshwara Temple Developmental Committee, director for Udyavara Sports Club Tuluvara Balaga Melpete, director for Udupi Auto Rickshaw Sahakari Sangha, general secretary of the district Congress, and member of the Railway Suggestion Committee.

He is survived by wife Radha, daughter Sarvamangala, 3 sisters, 4 brothers, and several friends and party workers. His final rites will be held on August 30, Thursday in Udyavara Public Crematorium, Mukthi Dhama.

His body will be placed in Udyavara Sarvajanika Kreedangana from 10:30 a.m. for the benefit of the public, after which a condolence meeting will be held by the Udupi District Congress Committee.

A number of Congress workers and leaders such as Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes, Union Corporate Affairs Minister M. Veerappa Moily, AICC Secretary Vinaykumar Sorake, and others offered condolences.
