Dr. Veerendra Heggade releases Kannada translation of Quran

Udupi, Sep 2, 2012 : Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, released Abdul Salam Puthige’s Kannada translation of the Quran “Kannadadalli Quran Anuvada” on September 1, Saturday.

The translation was published by Bangalore Madhyana Prakashana through the District Forum for Humanity.

In his address, Dr. Heggade spoke of the importance of religious tolerance. Stating that one must learn to accept all religions as ways to a peaceful and better life, he said that reading the Quran is essential for the understanding of Islam.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Frederic Mascarenhas, parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, said that all religions preach the same values. He also congratulated the District Forum of Humanity for publishing the Quran in Kannada, which will help non Muslims understand Muslims better.

Abdul Salam spoke about the Quran, adding that it explains everything from the beginning of life to its end.

Among those present were Neelavari Surendra Adiga, president of Udupi District Kannada Sahithya Parishad, MP Jayaprakash Hegde, and others.

The organizers also held an Eid Sauharda Koota on this occasion.
