IGP Pratap Reddy suggests CCTV installation to control crime

Udupi, 4, 2012 : Pratap Reddy, IGP of Western Range, has suggested that CCTV must be installed to monitor undesirable activities such as drug and alcohol abuse, consumption of alcohol in public places, theft of laptops, two-wheelers, and mobiles, reckless driving, and others in the vicinity of educational institutions in Manipal. The IGP was addressing a meeting jointly convened by the Manipal University and the Udupi Police.

Further speaking about this issue, he said that reckless driving, especially at night, has led to a number of deaths and accidents, adding that the police are getting more and more reports of students being involved in undesirable activities. He said that the police, under the guidance of SP Dr. Boralingaiah, have already taken steps to monitor and control these activities, but CCTVs can help the police to control these activities better.

He also said that the police have arrested two drug smugglers in the vicinity.

Ramadas Pai, vice chancellor of Manipal University, V. K. Prabhu, Dr. H. S. Ballal, wardens of hostels in Manipal and Mangalore, police officers from Karkala, Kundapura, Udupi, and others, were also present during the meeting.
