5-day inter-state painting exhibition inaugurated at Prasad Art Gallery

Mangalore, Sept. 23, 2012: A five-day exhibition of paintings from Kasargod, Kannur, DK, and Udupi was launched at Prasad Art Gallery on MG Road on Saturday. Organized by Vishwakala Art Gallery in Payyanur, it is the first attempt on the part of the gallery to hold an inter-state exhibition of paintings in Mangalore. Around 60 paintings are displayed.

Senior artist P. S. Punchithaya said that senior and junior artists from these districts took part in a 2-day art camp held at Payyanur and created 110 paintings using canvas and acrylic medium. The best 60 of these paintings have been selected for the exhibition, he said, adding that these works will also be displayed at an exhibition planned by Lalithakala Academy in New Delhi soon.

Ravishankar Rao of the PG department of English at Mangalore University and coordinator of the NG Pavanje Trust of Mangalore University inaugurated the exhibition.

Speaking about the exhibition, Punchithaya said that the art camp at Payyanur was the first of its kind where artists from the twin districts met and interacted with artists from Kerala.

The public can view this exhibition from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. till September 26.
