Mangalore, Sept. 23, 2012: The National Academic Depository Bill will make it easier to verify the certificates of students who want to go abroad in search of jobs. The government will upload certificates of students from different educational institutions on a single website.
Oscar Fernandes, senior Congress leader, made the above statements while delivering a talk on the subject “Education Policy, Education Challenges, and the Way Ahead” organized by KCCI on Saturday.
Speaking further, Mr. Fernandes said that, although Indian students have talent, not a single Indian university is in the list of top 100 universities in the world, adding that India is yet to establish a branch of an Indian university in foreign countries. Although the country spends huge sums of money in research and has a number of research institutions, it still lags behind in research. He said that this is because research institutions are not linked with universities.
He also said that 17,000 extra medical seats are being made available to overcome shortage of medical staff in medical colleges.
Speaking about the Educational Tribunal Bill, he said that it will solve the problems of several students and teachers. The Prohibition of Unfair Practices Bill will curb unfair practices in medical circles, he added. Besides, he said that the Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations) Bill has been tabled in Parliament. According to this last-mentioned bill, only foreign educational institutions having 20 years of experience will be permitted to establish universities in India.
