Mangalore, Sep 25, 2012 : The New Mangalore Port (NMP), for the first time in its history, handled 10,000 bags of salt, which will be locally distributed.
M. V. All Cargo Aarathi, which was carrying 400 metric tons of salt from Kandla Port, called at NMP on Sunday and sailed out on Monday after unloading.
The consignment includes a wide range of salt such as Ankur laminated salt, free-flow loose salt, iodized salt, Annapurna Laminated Salt, and others—all brought to Mangalore for the local people. The stevedore was M/s Shri Ganesh Shipping Agency.
Speaking about the consignment, NMPT Chairman Dr. P. Tamilvanan said that the port is making all efforts to increase the volume of cargo and that these efforts have resulted in the flow of diversified cargo to NMPT.
The port handles edible oil, LPG, fertilizers, kerosene oil, diesel, and other items that the common man requires, he said, adding that so far the port has handled 16.04 million metric tons of cargo in 2013 – 13 as against the 15.63 million metric tons it handled during last fiscal year. The port has grown by 2.63%, he added.
