Inter-school art contest to be held to enhance Malaria awareness

Mangalore, Sep 27, 2012: Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV), a foundation based in Switzerland, Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Mangalore, DK District Health Department, and the Malaria Cell of Mangalore City Corporation will organize an inter-school art contest on Malaria prevention awareness for high school students.

Making the above announcement at a press conference held on September 26, Wednesday, HOD of Pediatrics Dr. Shantharam B. Baliga said that spreading Malaria awareness in Mangalore is of paramount importance and the best way to do this is by organizing a painting event.

Revealing further details, he said that 6000 students from 25 schools all over Mangalore will take part in the art contest, which will be held for one week in October. One hundred of them will be selected for the finals. A photography exhibition, a teachers’ orientation program, and a jatha by students will also form part of this one-week event, he added.

Representatives from MMV will take part in the valedictory ceremony, which will be held in Town Hall on Nov 2, he said.
