Six-year-old girl raped in Bhatkal

Bhatkal, Oct 10, 2012: A man raped a six-year-old girl in Bhatkal on the night of Tuesday.

The Bhatkal police arrested the accused Shridhar Naika of Puravarga Mugalihonda and booked him under IPC Section 376. Assistant SP for Uttara Kannada Sudhir Kumar said that the minor has been admitted to the hospital.

Hundreds of furious local people gathered in front of the local police station and began protesting against the crime. They demanded that the accused should be severely punished.

Muhiuddin Althaf Kharoori, general secretary of Majlis-e-Islah-o-Tanzeem; S. M. Sayyed Parvez, vice president; members of the Bhatkal Town Municipal Council Mohammed Sadi Matta and Sana’ullah Gavayi; and others also rushed to the police station to pacify the furious protestors.

The victim’s father Mahmoud said that a girl from Naik’s family had taken her home to play with them. After some time, the girl returned home crying and told her parents about the incident.

The members of the local Azad Youth Club tried to storm into Naik’s house, but the police arrested him by then.
