Postal employees’ strike enters fourth day

Mangalore, oct 20, 2012 : The indefinite strike of postal employees, held under the banner of the All India Postal Extra Departmental Employees’ Union – Gramin Dak Sevaks (AIPEDEU – GDS), in front of the postal headquarters in Mangalore, entered the fourth day on Oct 19, Friday.

Delivering the protest address, the postmaster of Bejai said that India has over 1,55,000 post offices, of which 27,000 are handled by permanent government staff and 1,25,000 are handled by extra departmental employees, adding that the government does not pay its workers properly.

These extra departmental workers work under pathetic conditions, are discriminated against, and are not provided facilities available to permanent staff.

Flaying politicians, General Secretary of Karnataka Bank P. R. Karanth said that neither Nithin Gadkari nor Sonia Gandhi understand the difficulties of common people, who cannot afford the basic necessities of life. He also raised his voice against the corrupt activities of Nithin Gadkari, Union Minister Kurshid, and his wife.
