2 men die of drowning while immersing Sharadadevi idol

Bantwal, oct 26, 2012: Two young men died of drowning after they accidentally fell in River Phalguni at Mullarapatna in Bantwal when the idol of Goddess Sharada was immersed early in the morning of Thursday.

The deceased are Sathish Bhandary (35) of Kuppepadavu and Yogish Pujari (25) of Nelyalachchil. Bhandary’s body was retrieved on the evening of Thursday, but the body of Pujary is yet to be found.

A group of four people entered the river with the idol of Goddess Sharada, but two of them died of drowning. One of the survivors Lakshmana Sapalya said that he was washed away by the currents, but managed to swim to safety near Karmaragundi.
