Mangalore, Oct. 27, 2012: Jaya C. Suvarna, president of the All India Billawas Federation, has bagged the Pingara Rajyotsava Award of 2012. The award was conferred on it in recognition and appreciation of his philanthropy.
Pingara, the Kannada weekly, received 17 applications, out of which it chose the name of Jaya C. Suvarna for the award.
The award will be conferred on him at a special awards ceremony, which will be held on Nov 20, on the presence of Dr. M. Mohan Alva, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, and others.
Raymond D’Cunha, editor of Pingara, told reporters that Suvarna deserves this award because of his selfless service to society. Speaking about the jury, he said that it comprises prominent people from different walks of life, who carefully studied the social contributions of Mr. Suvarna before deciding to declare him as the winner of the award.
Those who aspire for this award need to be residents of DK, Kasargod, or Udupi. Previous recipients of this award are Kuntadi Dayanand Pai (2005), M. Mohan Alva (2006), Walter Nandalike (2007), Grace Pinto (2008), D. Veerendra Heggade (2009), Louis J. Pinto (2010), and Harikrishna Punaroor (2011).
The Pingara Award comprises a citation and a scroll of honor. Among those present were William Menezes, Roy Castelino, and Dharmadarshi Harikrishna Punaroor.
