57 teams take part in national ball badminton tourney

Mangalore, Nov 22, 2012 : As many as 57 teams from 27 states across the country took part in the 32nd National Boys and Girls Sub Junior Ball Badminton Championship organized jointly by the Alva’s Educational Institutions and Karnataka Ball Badminton Association at Vidhyagiri Grounds in Moodubidri on Wednesday.

R. Rajgopal Muthukrishna, vice president of the National Ball Badminton Federation, inaugurated the tournament and said that Alva’s Institution is providing free hostel and education for 30 badminton players.

MLA Abhay Chandra Jain recalled his father, who was a national-level ball badminton player at Benares University. He said that his father trained former MLA Amarnath Shetty and Union Minister Veerappa Moily in ball badminton.

Dr. M. Mohan Alva, chairperson of Alva’s Education Institutions; Amarnath Shetty, former MLA; Jayashree Amarnath Shetty, trustee of the institution; Y. Rajrao, general secretary of the National Ball Badminton Federation; and others were also present.
