Mangalore : ABVP protests against govt moves to permit private universities

Mangalore, Dec 4, 2012  : The  state government moves to permit private universities and   table the Karnataka State Private University (Amendment) Bill  in this regard during the Belgaum session of the Assembly, has drawn flak from some corners. The Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) staged a protest against the move, at the Bunts Hostel Circle in Mangalore on December 3, Monday.


ABVP State Secretary Ramesh Kumar who addressed the agitators urged the government to  have  clear-cut guidelines for such universities if at all they are established. He also demanded that fifty per cent of the seats in such universities should be  reserved for Karnataka students. Another demand was that the fees should be fixed by the government itself.


The ABVP has further  made a request for a debate on the issue  with various relevant parties including lecturers, experts as well as student organizations,  before the government came out with a final decision.


 Vinay Horatti, President of the city unit of the ABVP  also spoke  on the occasion.
Several ABVP activists took part in the protest which was organized as per the call given by the state unit of the Parishad.
